Question : Does Alpha® offer Core Bit Extender with Spline Shank?
Answer : No. Alpha® does not offer a Core Bit Extender with Spline Shank since the larger rotary hammer that takes Spline Shank has less revolution, and that would not be suitable for diamond application.
Question : What is the maximum drilling depth?
Answer : Alpha® Laser Segmented Core Bit can be used up to 4” deep. When you approach the deep core drilling application, we recommend using water as cooling agent for better performance.
Question : Can I core drill on Porcelain Paver Tile dry?
Answer : Yes. Alpha® recommends using a Laser Segmented Core Drill Bit on high-speed angle grinder. If you can supply water as cooling capacity, the performance of bit would become much better, and you can also eliminate dust from application. Since it is a very, hard dense material, we don’t recommend using this core bit on hammer drill or rotary hammer due to the rotation speed.
Question : Why can’t I use Laser Segmented Core Drill Bit and Extender with percussion?
Answer : Since diamond grits are very sharp and hard, you can cut the surface of material effectively so that continual grinding motion and fast peripheral speed are essential for faster application. Conventional tungsten carbide core bit does not cut the surface well, so in that case, you need to add percussion to bite into the material then remove debris with rotary motion. If you use a diamond core bit with percussion, the cutting edge of the diamond grits, would be potentially destroyed by percussion.
Question : Why do I need to use a Pilot Carbide Drill Bit first?
Answer : It is not easy to keep the core bit flat against the surface of material by hand-held application so that the user would approach in angle first until you get enough grip in the material. When you use on high-speed angle grinder, or with hammer drill or rotary hammer, there is a much slower rotation and with the length of the Extender, it is even more difficult to keep the cutting edge at the targeted area. A Pilot Carbide Drill Bit will stabilize the application so that you can establish the groove for segments quickly, and then you can remove a Pilot Drill Bit to let the diamond bit work faster in the groove.
Question : I already have an extender for tungsten carbide core bit. Can I use it with Alpha® Laser Segmented Core Bit?
Answer : No. Since your extender for tungsten carbide core bit comes with different thread size, you cannot use that with Alpha® Laser Welded Core Bit.
