Question : Can I cut material since there are diamond grits on the edge?
Answer : Diamond grits on the edge of Vexcel Disc are for notching purposes only. You can’t cut the material since the base has a curved design intended for the grinding application.
Question : How long does Vexcel last compared with other abrasive products?
Answer : It depends on the application and the product as well as your definition of the end of life on a conventional abrasive since they don’t retain tool dimensions. General indication of life span is up to 50 to 60 times of the conventional abrasives.
Question : Why doesn’t Alpha® offer Vexcel in 9” diameter?
Answer : Diamond grits stay on the heavy duty steel base for a long time so the diamond grits pull material out for much longer time that requires much more torque. Due to this, using a 5” Vexcel Disc on a 7” angle grinder works better than a 5” Vexcel Disc on a 5” angle grinder. Conventional abrasives release abrasive grits very fast so it works well on an ordinary grinder. This is the reason you see a lot of sparks from the cutting edge and the abrasive product doesn’t retain its dimensions.
Question : Can I use it with water to eliminate dust?
Answer : Yes you can use Vexcel Disc with water to keep the dust down.
Question : How do we eliminate dust during the application?
Answer : Alpha® offers the Ecoguard G which will retrofit on most industrial grade 4-1/2” and 5” grinders. You can use the HEPA vacuum in conjunction with Vexcel Disc and Ecoguard to enjoy a virtually dust- free grinding application. Please check the material when you use a vacuum because some metal alloy powders are combustible.
Question : Why doesn’t Alpha® offer a square arbor for the Ecogrinder?
Answer : The Ecogrinder is designed to use on a flat surface and the Vexcel Disc is used on an angle so that they will not work well together.
Question : What kind of tool can I use with Vexcel Disc?
Answer : You can use the Vexcel Disc on a high-speed angle grinder, sander and polisher. The original flange & lock nut with the wrench provided work well or you can simply get a Vexcel Disc with a disposable zinc hub with the 5/8”-11 female thread so that you can spin on and off using the spindle lock.
