Question : Can I use PVA VP Series with water to keep the dust down?
Answer : No, you can’t. You cannot use PVA VP Series with water as a wet polishing system. If you would like to reduce the dust created by PVA VP Series, Alpha® recommends using it conjunction with Ecoguard G and HEPA Vacuum for virtually dust free sanding and polishing application.
Question : Does Alpha® offer the kit with PVA VP Series for the startup operation?
Answer : No. Alpha® currently doesn’t offer a PVA VP Series startup kit, since many of the applications don’t require all grits typically included in a kit. For example, glass edge polishing can be done by only two grits that are Red and Green.
Question : I like to use PVA VP Series on the vertical sander. Does Alpha® have a 7” diameter for that application?
Answer : No. We don’t offer anything larger than 4.5” diameter at this time. However, we are able to produce larger sizes up on request such as 7” with or without disposable zinc hub, so please inquire to the office when you have requests from customers.
Question : I have a variable speed grinder for the application with PVA VP Series. What is the recommended RPM I should use?
Answer : PVA VP Series works at any RPM a variable-speed polisher offers. Considering the speed of process and the quality of the finish, Alpha® recommends RPMs in the middle of the speed range (approx. 5,000RPM), this way, you don’t build up the heat on the surface and speed of processing is reasonable.
Question : Is there any reason why PVA VP Series is not packed with a dryer like I used to see?
Answer : We have two reasons for that. First, is that we are no longer using a vulcanized fiber as the disc base which can get affected by the humidity. Second, we also use a skin tight shrink pack for the PVA VP Series abrasive bonding system to minimize the exposure to the humidity.
Question : Why is PVA VP Series color-coded and has a different grit indication system vs. the mesh sizes?
Answer : Due to the unique bonding system and its hardness, PVA VP Series will leave much finer scratches using the same mesh size compared with other bonding systems, therefore, we use grit indication by saying Extra Coarse, Coarse, Medium, Fine and Extra Fine mesh. We also wanted to provide visual identity to indicate the polishing sequence besides the label since PVA QC Series doesn’t come with labels.
